8:30 a.m. What a great start to a first term. I seemed to have missed my first class of the term. I suppose it was a bad idea to play "Draw My Thing" on OMGPOP.com until 1:00 a.m. when I have an early class. Disappointed with myself, I went online to check what my next class was. I opened up my schedule and searched 9:30 a.m. Apparently, I had misread my schedule from the beginning and my first class actually starts at 9:30 NOT 8:30. Overjoyed, I rushed into the bathroom and prepped myself for the first day of my "third year". I threw on a grey hollister t-shirt and a pair of my levi's 511 jeans running out the door struggling to slip on my red vans shoes. Overall, I liked the outfit I was wearing; simple, but eye catching. I nearly ran to class fearing that it was a room where you could only enter from the front. I hate getting those evil stares from professors when you're late for their class and everyone's eyes are on you. Luckily there was a back entrance and I used that as a path to a seat in the back row. I popped my Klipsch headphones out of my ears and started to pay attention to my new biology professor. Strangely, his voice did not match his look and I quickly lost interest. I began texting Lapin letting her know I made it class for once and asked to meet for lunch. Her class ended an hour after mine so I was glad I shoved my laptop into my bag.
After class was over, I walked over to the building where Lapin's class was held. I grabbed a sofa seat just outside and opened up my Macbook. After entering my passcode to gain access to the wifi on campus, I ventured onto OMGPOP.com to play some more Draw My Thing which I am currently addicted to. Who knew "pictionary" online could be so fun. With my headphones in my ears, the world was my own and I began drawing away. Soon after, I felt a rough nudge to my arm which caused me to look up from my game. Lapin was done and ready to head out. I decided to grab Subway on campus because Lapin had brought her lunch to school, spaghetti bolognese with cauliflower. The concoction was more meat than anything else and I have never seen cauliflower mixed into a pasta dish before. We both agreed she should never try it again. I ordered a meatball sub going along with the Italian theme and got it dressed rather simply, lettuce, tomatoes, and black olives. We chatted about our classes and what we were going to do for the rest of the day.
Since I had the car, we decided we should go buy hair dye for me because everyone seemed to be doing it and I didn't want to be left out. But in all honesty, I've been thinking of dying my hair for the past five or so years and just decided it was time to take action. Lapin and I headed over to Walmart, a location she didn't know about and I was unsure of how to get to, because the cost would be cheaper than Shopper's Drug Mart. As a "starving student" I try and save every dollar I can. We found a parking spot rather easily because it was a Monday afternoon and the place was HUGE. Neither of us was really sure how to navigate the store so we walked around for a bit trying to find cosmetics. Sadly, it was at the front of the store and we completely walked by it forcing us to make a large loop of the superstore. I stared at the countless brands of hair dye for women because the men's dye was specifically for targeting grey hairs which I'm proud to say I have a few of. We decided to go with Garnier getting the light ash brown colour. Strangely, we also saw the dark ash brown, which was of a lighter tone. Confused, we walked to the cashier, picked up a pack of gum, paid, and then left. Having time to kill, we also headed towards the mall and walked around for a bit. Once again, I was out of luck and could not find anything I really wanted other than a moderately priced cookbook on chicken, but I did help Lapin pick out an outfit. I was a little sad when the jacket I picked looked a bit off, but other than that, it was BEAUTIFUL. I think it suited her well, but the darned collar was strangely long. Either way, we headed over to her house because she had to meet up with her friend who was picking something up. Lapin and I decided to watch a movie: Pride and Prejudice. After 5 agonizing minutes of bad sound quality and confusion of what was actually happening, we switched over to a romantic comedy; Mean Girls. There's just something about that movie that screams excellence. It's funny and clever, and even though it was the upteenth time we've seen it, it's still enjoyable.
After the movie, Lapin's friend still had not shown up and we were getting hungry so she told her housemate to open the door for her friend. After she agreed, Lapin and I headed out to Ben Thanh for some pho. I got the lean beef and tripe pho while Lapin ordered a lean beef and flank pho. When ordering, she did a complete fail and ordered the chef special, but asked to hold the tripe and tendons. Sadly, all that was left was the flank and lean beef which was already a preset order. When our food finally came and we started eating, Lapin seemed to finish her noodles a hundred times faster than me, but her meat supply seemed plentiful. I joked that she got more meat because they knew she was a meatatarian. Strangely, as the meal went on, my endless supply of noodles and her endless supply of meat made us believe they messed up a little in the kitchen giving her most of the meat and me most of the noodles. After dinner, we headed to my place to chill before going to Lapin's friend's music gig. A bit overexcited, I told her to dye my hair. After slathering the formula onto my head and rubbing it in, I awaited half an hour for the result. After washing out the excess gunk, and yes there was much excess as Lapin decided to use the whole bottle meant for long hair where I have short, I looked into the mirror. I could definitely tell it was lighter and of brown colour. It seemed quite close to the box's description, but it was hard to see in the light. My housemates crowded to see the difference, but the light in our house just didn't cut it. Either way, I was extraordinarily happy and was ready to head over the gig.
We drove down King until we hit the Laurier Music House where the event was held. After greeting the overly friendly doorman/bouncer, we were allowed in and took a seat near the bar. I decided not to order anything as I would be driving after it was done. Lapin's friend was up first and his band Dovetail was amazing. Her friend was on bass guitar and did really kick ass solos and tricks that I was amazed by. We congratulated him on their performance and awaited the other bands. After hearing the other two bands, we decided that we didn't especially like the last one because they seemed a little to publicized and the fact that we couldn't understand a word they were singing about. Once everything was over, we headed for home.
With ringing in my ears and brown hair on my head, I fell asleep.
Regardless of the excessive amount of dye I put on your hair, it still turned out beautiful =)
